Steve Lewis’ early days as a press photographer were spent in the east end of London, during this time the photographs he captured the gritty reality of life in East London during the “Swinging” Sixties.

As the images graphically illustrate, widespread poverty, poor housing, industrial unrest and racial tension.

In 1972 he joined The Sun newspaper as a photographer, his assignments have ranged from celebrities to fashion.

Lewis left the paper in 2006 having served 35 years on the paper, but continues to work.
